Right in the heart of Ramsbottom, a wonderfully quirky market town, full of brilliant independent shops, you’ll find Velvet.

We love beautiful clothing, but it’s the people who make our shops so special. Whether you’re popping in for a browse, looking for something for a special occasion or wondering what to match up with a favourite pair of trousers, we’re here to help you feel comfortable and enjoy discovering something that you love.

There’s always time for a chat, an honest opinion and a cuppa—and you’re very welcome to take your time.

Our story

Debbie first opened Velvet in 2010, moving to our lovely Bridge Street home in 2016. Over the years, we’ve grown into an award-winning independent business, supported by a fabulous team, family and the customers who have become such a big part of our story.

Some have shopped with us from the very beginning; others have only just discovered us. Every friendly recommendation, visit and purchase has helped us grow, and we never take that support for granted.

Velvet Ladieswear ~ the original

Our original boutique is at the heart of the Velvet family.

Debbie visits fashion trade shows across the UK and Europe to find unique products with her customers in mind -whether that’s a beautiful print, a flattering fit or a piece you’ll reach for again and again.

Here you’ll find Seasalt, White Stuff, Dolcezza, Frank Lyman and Barbara Lebek, alongside other carefully chosen labels. From easy everyday favourites to something a little dressier, we choose for real women, combining different lifestyles and a range of budgets in mind.

And if you’d like a little help putting it all together, that’s what we’re here for.

Velvet two- menswear and Ladieswear

In 2019, the former NatWest Bank just along Bridge Street gave us the chance to welcome more brands—and menswear—into the Velvet family.

Discover Barbour, Joules, Fransa, Nümph and more, with everything from favourite jeans and cosy knits to lovely dresses and coats you’ll wear season after season. It’s a collection for everyday life, with plenty of personality.

Menswear-first floor

With brands including Barbour, Joules, Claudio Lugli , Lakor and Alberto, our menswear collections brings together comfortable everyday favourites, great-fitting trousers and shirts with character. Whether you’re choosing for yourself or looking for a gift, we’re happy to lend a hand.

Our next chapter- Holcombe brook

The Velvet family is growing again, with our third destination on its way to Holcombe Brook, just outside Ramsbottom.

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes, and we’re looking forward to sharing the journey with you. Expect the same friendly faces and personal service, with beautiful collections and something special for those big occasions.

We’ll listen to what you’re looking for, offer ideas if you’d like them and give you an honest opinion. Sometimes that means helping you try something you wouldn’t have picked yourself, or finding the perfect piece to go with what you already own.

For us, the best part is seeing someone leave feeling happy and confident in their choice.

That sense of community carries through to our fashion shows, in-store events and celebrations. We love bringing people together, catching up with familiar faces and making new customers feel at home.
